ABOUT
SAMANTHA NEWTON
Samantha Newton is a wife, homeschool momma, and artist. Her bachelors degree was earned in Public Health before shifting her studies and career to pursue fine art. She gained her art training through self-led avenues like Dan Wilson and Ian Ramsey workshops, online mentorships with Michelle Dunaway and Susan Lyon/Scott Burdick, and a year in North Carolina mentoring at East Oaks Studio under Louis Carr. She is often watching and painting along with artist demos, most recently those of Daniel Keys, Daniela Astone or listening to Jeff Hein on the Undraped Artist Podcast.

While clearly influenced by these amazing living artists, she is also inspired by 19th century masters like Zorn, Sorolla, and Sargent. Samantha’s pursuit of art has brought a lot of therapeutic benefits through postpartum depression earlier on and contributes to her ongoing general happiness. She is always seeking to expand and never settle with her current skill set, while finding the balance and love for the process. She loves classic realism, alla prima work, expressive light, interesting texture, and subtle color and value shifts.

Now that Samantha has returned to Utah, she is getting involved locally this time around and enjoying connecting with those also seeking genuine camaraderie. She enjoys spending her mornings homed in as a member of the MOMSET by Tessa Romero, learning to choose the narrative for her life and become a better mom. She is experiencing a surge of wanting to learn other creative skills such as woodworking and sewing as she sets her kids up to learn such skills. Samantha believes the balance of family, faith, and multiple interests will in time make her a more informed individual and painter, capable of more depth of work.

In lieu of her daily responsibilities and priorities, Samantha has recently been painting smaller as she can do this easier while kids climb trees, play legos, or smash blueberries on the couch. Recently she has found painting the landscape outdoors “plein air”, and figures in everyday situations has been quite enjoyable.
